Weston's interiors receives national award

Weston Park on the Staffordshire / Shropshire border has won a high profile national award which recognises excellence in the Built Environmental and Architectural Heritage.

The Green Organisation’s, Green Apple Environment Awards recognised the sensitive conservation work which was undertaken in the House at Weston earlier this year.

Weston, the former home to the Earls of Bradford, received its prestigious Green Apple Plaque at the House of Commons. The award was presented by actress Fiona Fullerton.

The Green Organisation is an independent, non political, non profit environmental group that recognises and rewards the efforts being made to protect, preserve and enhance architectural heritage and built environments including both new and old buildings.

Weston Park carried out the transformation of the main halls and salons in January 2006. The work included the delicate conservation work of Vernet ‘shipping scene’ portraits.

Colours and products were chosen that were historically accurate to the period of the House The soothing french grey finish creates a welcoming entrance for visitors and provides a fitting backdrop for the priceless treasures and classical furniture housed at Weston.

Colin Sweeney, Weston Park’s Chief Executive was pleased with the result of the refurbishment and delighted to have been recognised by a national organisation: “Weston Park is run by a charitable foundation and the Trustees’ and management team are very conscious of the responsibilities they have inherited within their remit. Careful consideration is always given to any alterations on the estate in order to preserve the beauty and history for future generations.

“The refurbishment undertaken this year has added to the character of the House and reinforced the family home atmosphere which is symbolic to Weston. We feel the Green Apple judges have confirmed this.”

The supporters of the Green Apple Organisation include the Environmental Agency, the Chartered Institute of Environmental Health and the Chartered Institute of Waste Management.
