School dining is transformed thanks to Johnstone's

Staff and pupils returning to a Twickenham Infant School after the summer holidays received something of a surprise when they discovered their tired and dated dining halls had been given a new lease of life thanks to a professional make over.

Heathfield Nursery and Infant School in Cobbett Road , Twickenham, received the makeover after winning a community makeover competition organised to celebrate the opening of the Johnstone's Decorating Centre in Hampton Road , Twickenham.

Heathfield School was selected from a host of entries by a panel of judges including Jo Gumb, Managing Editor of the Twickenham Times and a technical representative from Johnstone's Paints.

"The entire school has been involved in this competition from the initial application right through to the work starting. It has been extremely exciting for everyone here, and now to see the finished rooms it is absolutely fantastic," stated Becky Underwood, Head Teacher at Heathfield Nursery and Infant School.

Matthew Baines, Marketing Controller at Johnstone's said that Heathfield School had been selected because it was a clear example of community working: "The competition to mark the opening of the new Decorating Centre was based on giving something back to the community.

"There were several deserving entries but the dining halls at Heathfield School fulfilled all the right criteria. Not only are they used by the staff and 600 pupils of the Infant and Junior Schools for lunches and assemblies, but also for community activities such as after school clubs, parent group meetings, crèches and mother and toddler groups."

The decorative makeover, worth up to £3,000 included a consultation with one of Johnstone's colour advisory team, all paints and materials and the makeover itself. The work was carried out over the space of a couple of weeks by professionals from Johnstone's Paints, who were supported by a local firm of decorators - Insideout Painters & Decorators Ltd, based in Hounslow.

Heather Bird, Deputy Head at Heathfield School believes the makeover has given the dining halls a new lease of life: "The two halls look fantastic - they are so much lighter and fresher. When the children came back from their summer holidays and saw the dining halls they were absolutely bowled over. They have since been drawing pictures of their new look dining halls and the staff have been admiring them and planning what we can add in terms of new furnishings.

"Everyone at Heathfield would like to say a big thank you to Johnstone's Paints - in fact we will be sending them some of the children's pictures of our new halls so that they can see exactly what they have done for the school."

Matthew Baines concludes: "It is extremely rewarding to see what has been achieved at Heathfield School . The community makeover competition was about giving something back to the community and I think this has certainly been achieved."

Johnstone's Decorating Centre offers the best advice and service as well as market leading quality and value. The shop on Hampton Road , Twickenham stocks a wide range of trade quality paints available in over 15,000 colours and is open to the professional trade and general public.
