A Slough building contractor who thought he had won a T-shirt in a national £4m competition, was amazed to find he had actually won the top prize of a brand new Fiat Doblo van.

Derek Hotson received the winning scratchcard from his local Johnstone's Leyland Decorating Centre as part of Johnstone's Big Delivery prize giveaway. The Slough Centre was the second to give out a top prize after a van was won at the Johnstone's Decorator Centre in Cardiff in October.

The prize, a brand new Fiat Doblo 1.3 Cargo, signwritten with the winners livery, was part of Johnstone's £4 Million prize giveaway competition which involved giving out a scratchcard with every Johnstone's product purchased at one of its network of Johnstone's Leyland Decorating Centres throughout the UK . Customers were in with a chance of winning one of 100 Fiat Doblo vans or a share of £4 Million in prizes.

Mr. Hotson had gone into the Decorating Centre to buy paint. After being given the scratchcard as part of his purchase, he scratched off the panels and thought he had won a t-shirt. He had in fact won a brand new van.

"When I realised I had won a van, I was extremely surprised to say the least," said Mr Hotson who works for Adamson Construction based on the Stirling Road Trading Estate in Slough .

"I am thrilled to have won this prize, especially as I am driving around in a Renault Clio at the moment which isn't ideal as I have nowhere to put anything. I'm a regular customer at Johnstone's and am pleased I decided to go to the store on the day that I did. I think I'm over my disappointment at not winning a T-shirt now!" concluded Mr Hotson.

"Our congratulations go to Mr. Hotson,' commented Sarah Clough, National Promotions Marketing Manager. "All of the scratchcards in the Johnstone's £4m Big Delivery promotion contained at least 3 matching symbols, so every card was a potential winner. Mr. Hotson scratched off three matching 'V' symbols, and we are delighted that he is now driving around in a brand new van."

The Johnstone's Big Delivery promotion has now finished, but with over 170 Decorating Centres across the UK and Ireland , there is still plenty of reason for customers to visit their local centre.
