New branding reflects Leyland's strong positioning

One of the UK’s largest trade paint brands, has unveiled a distinctive new livery which has been launched following intensive market research carried out within its national customer network.

Leyland, part of SigmaKalon UK and Ireland, has developed the new look in order to build upon its current successful position as the number two volume brand within the trade paint market.

“The new logo has created a much more contemporary look for Leyland, as it offers a subtle but significant modernisation to the brand identity,” comments Emmeline Woodhurst, Brand Manager - Leyland Trade Paint.

The new Leyland branding was developed over a period of seven months. The process involved in-depth interviews with key Leyland stockists as well as focus group discussions with painters and decorators. The objectives of which were to understand customers’ perceptions of the Leyland brand and explore responses to design concepts for the new Leyland paint tins.

“A clear favourite emerged quite early on in the process, with customers liking the clarity and simplicity of the font, the prominence of the logo and the strong colour coding on the tins,” continues Emmeline.

The new tins began to appear on shelf in January and will continue to roll through during the year.

“Feedback identifies the new tins as being both ‘contemporary’ and a ‘good trade design’, customers also like the inclusion of the word ‘Trade’ which endorses our trade credentials and emphasises the quality of the products on offer,” she adds.

The new Leyland colour card follows the same design as the new tins and is being launched in April, which will further reinforce the new branding and livery.

The new colour card has been developed in a concertina style which, when opened allows customers to view the entire colour range all at once. The card which displays the 168 Leyland trade colours and the 100 BS4800 colours, also provides a product guide including key technical information and attributes of each product in the Leyland range.
