Metal substrates is the focus for Johnstone's RIBA seminar

Professional specifiers looking to enhance their knowledge of the protection and decoration of metal substrates can take advantage of the latest RIBA Approved Continuing Professional Development (CPD) seminar from SigmaKalon UK Ltd and Johnstone's Paints.

SigmaKalon UK Ltd has been an official provider of CPD for RIBA members since 2005. The latest seminar, entitled Identifying and specifying paint treatments for metal substrates aims to teach professional specifiers how to identify specific metal substrates and their coatings.

The seminar, which is delivered by experts from Johnstone's technical specification team, also looks at some of the common causes of breakdown of metal and recommends appropriate paint systems including suitable methods of preparation

Clare Winter, Specification Marketing Manager at SigmaKalon, comments:

"The identification and protection of metal substrates is a key area for professional specifiers such as architects and surveyors.

"Metalwork is a key structural element which of course can be prone to deterioration if not properly treated. This latest CPD seminar will provide useful information on how to identify, prepare and protect a comprehensive range of metal substrates commonly used in construction."

The seminar will focus on several types of metal substrates and coatings including: ferrous metals, non-ferrous metals, plastisol cladding and powdercoated metals.

The seminar will involve a degree of interaction in which delegates will be able to view and handle samples of each type of metal in various states from eroded to unpainted through to painted in order to fully appreciate the topics being discussed.

"Correct preparation and application of suitable paint systems is vital to protecting those metals used in structural applications,' comments Tony Walker, Principal Specification Consultant.

"The Johnstone's CPD seminar provides specifiers with a detailed understanding of the properties of a range of the most commonly used metal substrates and the coatings used in protecting them. We believe the information and advice contained in this latest RIBA approved CPD will provide another valuable tool in the kit of the professional specifier," he concludes.

Specifiers wishing to take advantage of this new CPD material should e-mail specifiers@sigmakalon.co.uk or call the Johnstone's Technical Specification team on 01924 354100.

Johnstone's is one of the leading manufacturers of coatings in the UK and has a heritage dating back to 1890. For more information on Johnstone's, please go to www.johnstones-paints.co.uk.
