Johnstone's helps put the gloss on residents' community project

Leading paint manufacturer Johnstone's Paints, is helping to brighten up the lives of Windy Bank elderly residents by donating over 40 litres of paint to support the refurbishment of the Community Centre on the estate.

The Windy Bank Community Centre in Hightown, Liversledge, provides a range of social opportunities and day activities for older residents living in the area and surrounding area. The centre is owned by Kirklees Council, and used by a number of different groups from the area.

Johnstone's, based in Birstall donated the paint after being contacted by Community Worker, Marine Yarde.

"Windy Bank Community Centre is part of a network of support aimed at relieving social isolation for older residents on the estate and to regenerate community activity in the area,' comments Marine.

"The centre itself was in desperate need of refurbishment so workers and residents started fundraising. We initially got in touch with the Probation Service in Kirklees who kindly offered to decorate the centre if we could provide the paint.

"That is when we contacted Johnstone's Paints who were fantastic, they responded straight away with the offer of all the paint we requested to decorate the main lounge. Our sincere thanks to Kalon and its staff, who went the extra mile to help us," she adds.

Johnstone's Paints, part of the Sigma Kalon group which has its UK headquarters in Batley donated paint to decorate the entire lounge area of the community centre. Lorraine Holt, Marketing Assistant - Trade Brands, was pleased to be able to help such a worthy cause.

"Johnstone's is proud of its support of a range of charitable and community groups throughout the region. Windy Bank Community Centre plays a valuable role in supporting elderly residents in Liversledge and we were more than happy to be able to support the work it undertakes within the local community," concludes Lorraine .

Johnstone's is one of the leading paint manufacturers in the UK with a heritage dating back to 1890. For more information on Johnstone's, please go to www.johnstones-paints.co.uk.
