Two Bristol and two Doncaster youngsters are celebrating a dream come true after taking part in a half time penalty shoot out at the Johnstone’s Paint Trophy Final at the Millennium Stadium on April 1st 2007.
Gasheads Andrew Wright (11) and Joe Panes (11) took penalties against Doncaster Rovers’ mascot Donny Dog, and Donny supporters’ Georgina Saynor (10) and Josh Ilman (9) tried their luck against Bristol Rovers’ mascot Captain Gas at the match which saw Doncaster Rovers take on Bristol Rovers in the Johnstone’s Paint Trophy Final with the League 1 team beating the Gas 3 - 2.
Gina Laycock, Decorating Centre Marketing Manager for Johnstone's, said: “The atmosphere on the day was electric for them, the kids walked out to such a huge crowd and all the fans from both teams were behind them. I really hope that all four competitors enjoyed their day in Cardiff and will remember the event for years to come.”
It was a double Donny celebration on the day as the two young Doncaster supporters showed the mascot what they were made of when they stood on the penalty spot and notched up another win for their favourite side. Nine year old Josh stole the show by scoring three out of three goals, he was closely followed by Georgina who scored two. For the Gas youngsters Joe scored two and Andrew one.
Speaking about his win, Josh from Doncaster said “That was so much fun, I want to go out and do it again. I really wanted to try and get loads past Captain Gas, when he kept falling over it was really funny.”
The proud winners received a football goodie bag from Johnstone’s including a personalised football shirt, a signed club football and a commemorative trophy as a memento of the day.
