Managers and staff from a local fast fit centre played their part in ensuring a victorious charity rugby club were well kitted out for a recent international event, after donating £750 to help them buy much needed equipment.
HiQ based on High Street South, Dunstable made the donation to 'Periwinkles' the Lymphoma Association rugby team as part of its preparations to take part in the International Festival of Rugby that took place last weekend.
David Glover, Business Development Manager for HiQ became aware of the Periwinkles through customer, Dermot Coughlan, Transport Manager for Dunstable based firm Kelly Communications.
"HiQ has worked with Dermot and Kelly Communications for a number of years now and when he told me about his involvement with the Lymphoma Association and the Periwinkles, I thought it would be a great cause to support."
The Lymphoma Association is the only UK charity specialising in information and support for those affected by lymphatic cancer - the seventh most common cancer in the UK . The Periwinkles help to raise awareness of the condition and raise money through tournaments such as Overton event.
"The Periwinkles play every year to raise funds for the Lymphoma Association, and this year's Overton Festival helped us raise more than £5000 for the charity. We were also able to raise a great deal of awareness of a condition which affects so many people in the UK ," comments Dermot Coughlan.
"There were several big European teams taking part in the Overton tournament and the much needed equipment purchased by HiQ enabled us to put on a really good show. In fact we ended up winning it, which was fantastic.
"We're all really grateful to HiQ for their support and indeed to everyone who gave money to help us achieve this fantastic target."
The money donated by the store was part of the HiQ community fund which aims to support good causes in communities close to its network of stores nationwide.
HiQ Dunstable is part of a national network of leading automotive and fast-fit stores nationwide. For further information or to book an appointment call 01582 664530.
