Staff and pupils at Sunfield Special School in Clent were happy to receive a visit from the law this week as the senior partner from leading Black Country solicitors, Higgs & Sons turned up with a cheque for over £7,500.

The cheque represents money raised by Higgs & Sons' employees on behalf of the school over the past twelve months.

Ian Shovlin, senior partner at Higgs & Sons, was thrilled to be able to present the cheque on behalf of his colleagues, who had organised a host of fundraising events to support the school throughout 2006.

"We chose Sunfield as our adopted charity because of the excellent work it undertakes with children with such complex needs.

"Everyone at Higgs got involved in the fundraising and this cheque really does represent a great effort made by the entire Higgs team."

Higgs' fundraising activities included quiz nights, cake sales and a charity dragon boat race at Himley Hall in Dudley .

Sunfield School provides education and 52 week residential care for children between the ages of 6 and 19 who have complex learning needs, mainly arising from autistic spectrum disorders.

Set in a 60 acre site, the school has a range of facilities including a theatre, games room, ICT suite, sensory rooms and a farm with educational facilities and trails. There are also facilities for a wide range of sports including fishing, cycling and horse riding.

The tie-in with Higgs & Sons coincided with the school's 75th anniversary of providing education and residential care.

Director of Appeals and Development at Sunfield, Ian Jones said: "We are very appreciative of the support received from Higgs & Sons during 2006. Not only did they raise such a fantastic amount, but throughout the year, staff came along to the school and helped out with a variety of tasks. Everyone here at Sunfield is extremely grateful for all their efforts."
