The Bentley Golf Classic 2007 programme got off to a flying start in May with two of last year's world finalists repeating their success in the regional qualifiers.
The programme kicked off on 5 May when the Bentley dealership for the whole of Ireland , Charles Hurst, hosted a club sponsored event at the prestigious K- Club, home of the most recent Ryder Cup.
At Bentley Birmingham's event at The Belfry, Neville Leonard retained his standing as the best in Birmingham progressing through to the UK final for the second year running.
Darren Stevenson matched Neville's repeat success in Birmingham by winning the JCT 600 - Leodis Court event at Huddersfield (Fixby Hall) for the second time, finishing just one point ahead of second place Alex Trifunovic.
Both Neville and Darren have recently returned from Sardinia where they competed with two other UK finalists in the Bentley Continental Cup. They teamed up with winners from Bentley's Europe golf competition against a team from the United States .
Neville said: " Sardinia was such an exciting event despite the fact that more results went the Americans' way than the Europeans!"
Darren added: "The condition of the course was immaculate which made up for the results and we also had the opportunity to pick up some tips from Colin Montgomerie who played the practice round with us. I even managed to beat Colin on the tenth which made the whole trip worthwhile."
The top two players from each of May's competitions will join Neville and Darren in the UK Final at Bovey Castle in September. The three-night stay at the luxury resort situated in the picturesque Dartmoor National Park will include a warm up round, access to the spa and leisure facilities, as well as a gala dinner following the competition round.
A trip to the United States awaits the four highest scorers of the Bovey Castle UK Final where they will once more compete alongside the winners of Bentley's European competitions against the United States .
Neville adds: "I am very much looking forward to playing at the UK final at Bovey Castle in September and will be practicing beforehand to try and get a place in the World Final so I can go over to the States and beat the Americans on their own soil making up for this year's defeat."
Pete r Grant, Bentley events manager and organiser of the Bentley Golf Classic programme says the events have been very well received and the standard of golf has been very high. He adds: "As well as the golf, participants have been able to test-drive some of the finest cars available today including the Continental Flying Spur, the fastest four-door production car in the world, and the Continental GTC, inspired by the Grand Touring tradition of Bentley legend.
"The heat is really on now for the remaining world finalists, Ian Holden from Bentley Ribble Valley and Paul Mahoney of BentleyWest Country, to continue the trend and make it through to the UK final in Devon ."
