‘Girl Power’ ruled at a recent ladies evening where a teenager was presented with a cheque for over £1,000.

Megan Fosberry from Aylesbury who was diagnosed with cerebral palsy with spastic diplegia, was presented a cheque for £1,198 at Aylesbury Volkswagen at their recent ‘ladies evening’.

The teenager will be using the funds to purchase a new, light weight wheelchair that enables her to take part in her favourite sports.

The high amount raised was a result of Aylesbury Volkswagen launching ‘Megan’s Café’ at the staff’s canteen. Every fortnight staff took it in turns to prepare lunch for their colleagues to purchase, with all funds being donated to Megan.

Tracey Hirst, brand manager at Wayside Aylesbury Volkswagen said: “Megan is a vibrant and positive young lady. I’m very proud of my team for all the effort they put into their fundraising activities.

“Where possible we like to make a difference to people in the community, whether it’s raising funds for charity or hosting an event for our customers.”

The Bicester Road retailer recently held their ladies evening so that their female customers would have basic motoring knowledge and be able to carry out routine maintenance tasks on their own.

The event was a great success and guaranteed all ladies who attended left as ‘independent women’ learning from qualified technicians on how to change a wheel and checks fluids.

In addition, two local community support officers gave a talk on female safety and local businesses, Rumsey’s Chocolatiers and Alta Moda Hair Salon set up shop to support the event.

Tracey added: “It was a great evening enjoyed by all that allowed ladies to improve their motoring knowledge in a non-threatening atmosphere and get expert advice.”
