Pedal power boosts British Heart Foundation

London to Brighton bike ride - Martins Van Centre 1

A Basingstoke van centre used pedal power to raise £3,000 for charity at this year’s BHF London to Brighton bike ride.

Ten cyclists from Martins Van Centre took part in the British Heart Foundation bike ride, which attracted 28,000 riders over the 56 mile route from the capital to the coast.

The team, made up of staff from across the business, were ably supported by a fleet of Volkswagen vehicles, to ensured riders and bicycles returned safely.

Despite ‘four seasons in one day’ and a headwind, the team all successfully finished the ride, the fastest in around four hours and the stragglers in six.

Team member and head of business at Martins Van Centre, Andrew Lean, explains.

He said: “There was an immense sense of achievement as we crossed the finishing line. I am very proud of the team who have raised such a large amount of money for the British Heart Foundation.

“It was a tough challenge but the supporters along the route were amazing, it seemed like every church was dishing out water, every garden hose was pointed at the road.

“Ditchling Beacon is known as ‘The Green Monster’ and that was a gruelling climb, but arriving in Brighton to thousands of cheering people was a great feeling.”
